X3306 13.8.29. X.3306. LIBERTY DYNAMO AND REGULATOR. X.3795. + Field winding R P F M Opposing M & F.{Mr Friese} Fixed magnetic effect required, resultant of currents in M & F.{Mr Friese} Assume working at moderate dynamo speed. Next speed is increased. Contacts & parallel resistance may be treated as variable resistance R.{Sir Henry Royce} Suppose R not altered. Then general rise of volts and increased effect due to M-F (assume M dominated). .. R must be increased making F stronger than originally with same volts. But more volts required to get same M-F.{Mr Friese} Hence characteristic rises. Additive M & F.{Mr Friese} If R unchanged greater increase of effect due to M+F.{Mr Friese} .. R must be increased more to restore volts making F stronger. But less volts required to get same M+F.{Mr Friese} Hence characteristic falls. (R being increased further & F becoming stronger until balance reached) Possibility of instability if F too effective.
