HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RR.1/VS.{J. Vickers}21.5.37.

Raised Front Engine Mounting. Arrg. Ex.22805, ex B.23.AE. Chassis, rubbers Ex.22823, in satisfactory condition.

Petrol Tank LOP.2540 (Lightened Tank).

Badly damaged in accident but still free from leaks.

In addition to the above mentioned parts damaged by the recent accident, the frame was scrapped and, on the N.S. rear brake-drum, several fins were broken.

Further to this Report.

LeC.4670,78,4734. Petrol Filter on 2nd Crossmember.

An unusually large amount of foreign matter was found in the filter body, but both filters in the carburetters were clean.

Delco Remy Ignition Governor and Distributor.

The distributor spindle seized up sometime during test at the top. This had been cleaned up and seemed to be in good condition. We suggest a washer with a bigger bearing surface at the top of the spindle to take the weight of the governor mechanism, and also improved lubrication for the bearing, as this is liable to cause trouble through neglect. The cam-piece is cracked at the slot for the rotor.

Rear Road Springs LOP.FE.994.

The shackle pins were badly worn, especially at the rear end, the maximum wear being .0085" on the N.S. and .007" on the O.S. The maximum wear in the spring-eye bushes was .012" on both sides at the rear. The clearances between shackle pins and bushes at the front, were .0175" and .006" and at the rear, .0245" and .021".

The rear top pins and bushes were also worn badly, the O.S. bush being worn .024" in one place, and the pin .014" in a corresponding position. The N.S. bushes and pins were worn .013" and .0095" respectively. This excessive wear had probably been caused by the springs being twisted as a result of one of the accidents. The Spring side washers had worn from .001" - .0025", but the side clearance at the rear O.S. top-shackle pin was approximately .025".
