New York, U.S.A.

Dear Sirs,

As you are aware we are seriously considering the use of Hypoid Gears in axles in the near future. In this connection you will of course appreciate the fact that the oils you are recommending in America are probably not available in this country, and that in any case it would be preferable from our point of view to use an oil which could be readily obtained in this country and on the Continent. In view of this position we have been in touch with Messrs. C.C. Wakefield & Co., who supply all our lubricating oils at present, and they have definitely recommended their 'Castrol R' as being a satisfactory oil for use with hypoid gears.

When your representatives visited us at Derby they informed us that you would be very pleased to try out any English oils which we thought would be co-relatives of the American oils you were recommending. We, therefore, suggest that you should obtain some 'Castrol R' oil, which could be bought from Messrs. C.C. Wakefield & Co., Roebling Building, 117 Liberty Street, New York, and try out the oil in question on Hypoid gears under similar conditions to those which obtain with your normal lubricant, and let us have the results as soon as possible.

Thanking you in anticipation for giving this matter prompt attention, as the issue is a very urgent one with us.

Yours faithfully,

[Signature]
