Dear Sirs,

Referring to the proposal put forward in August of last year that the Gleason Co. would test out your 'Castrol R' oil for use with Hypoid bevel gears, we find that this matter had been side-tracked owing to the Gleason Co. writing to Messrs. Rolls-Royce of America, Inc. instead of to these Works. We now find that Messrs. Rolls-Royce of America replied to the effect that they were not interested, and therefore nothing further was done by the Gleason Co. We attach hereto copy of a letter received from the Gleason Co. in reply to one of ours of the Novr. 23rd. in which we again made the suggestion that the Gleason Co. should try out your 'Castrol R' oil. You will note that they are prepared to do this on an axle of which they know the performance, providing you will instruct your American Co. to supply five gallons of 'Castrol R' oil for the purpose.

Would you kindly pass on this instruction to your American House, and confirm that this has been done, as we are most anxious to have tests carried out on an oil with which we are acquainted rather than a special oil for this service viz. Hypoid bevel gears, alone.

Yours faithfully,

TECHNICAL PRODUCTION ENGINEER.
FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
