FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} X7770 R2/M22.8.27. C. to EFC. re. RR.F. 10. BLOWER & EXPERIMENTAL WORK GENERALLY. [Handwritten numbers:] X8770 X4550 X3604 Regarding the F.10. blower it is difficult to understand why we cannot have curved vanes which must be more efficient, also why the riveting of the shroud cannot be made satisfactory. Both of these points on the original model appear to have resisted failure up to speeds far beyond those at which we require to run. Regarding experimental work generally there are a number of matters as follows concerning which we are awaiting news, some of which are very urgent:- 20HP. Starter motor pinion improvements. RR.F. Magneto drive coupling. " Valve gear - rollerless rockers. " Carburetter - two port air inlet and improvement to airway under chokes. " Hand starter - Pearn's tapper type. Phantom - Modifications to reduce cylinder distortion " - Battery ignition - scrubbing contacts, more flexible spring, umbrealla rotor, etc, etc, " - Carburetter - corrosion of air valve. " - Valve gear modified to provide tappets above valves. " - Proposed exhaust and inlet pipes for revised Phantom. " - Slow running modifications. " - Battery charge indicator. " - Pedestal type pistons with single bolt. R.{Sir Henry Royce} [Handwritten notes on left margin:] HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} CJ-8-27 | ||
