Experimental Department 28th October 1936. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/AP. The S.U.Carburetter Co., East Works, Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, BIRMINGHAM For the attention of Mr.Skinner. Dear Mr.Skinner, Confirming our visit to you on Monday of this week and subsequent telephone conversation, we note that you are so enthusiastic about the G.J. zinc base diaphragm that you are prepared to guarantee that our service complaints will be less than 1%, and in view of this fact we have decided to change the diaphragms of every Phantom III. 25/30 and 4¼ litre Bentley. The decision arrived at is to send complete pumps to you for the old diaphragms to be removed and the new ones fitted and to be stamped with an identification mark. We understand you will be able to handle at least 30 such pumps per 24 hours and any increase on this number will materially assist us. At the same time we are arranging for deliveries of new pumps to be fitted with the G.J. diaphragm. In the case of Continental cars we are arranging for the Service Station in Paris to be supplied with the diaphragm assemblies so that they may changeover all cars running there forthwith. A record will be kept of all pumps so dealt with so that if subsequent trouble arises on such pumps we shall know they have been assembled by our personnel. The number of pumps so dealt with should not exceed 50. The total number of 25/30 pumps which will have to be rectified at your works appears to be about 500, Phantom III. about 220, and Bentleys 420. We are giving Phantom III. and 25/30 priority over the Bentleys. continued. | ||
