B.III No.1 (a bed) Direct comparisons to be taken between the following camshafts:- (a) Modified firing order 1, 3, 5, 6, 4, 2, ExS.759. (b) Std. Wraith camshaft. (c) Std. B.III camshaft EB.3466 (Monichrome ex B.III No.5 unit. (d) Modified B.III camshaft similar to B.III No.5 unit EX.31550. The comparisons should consist of power with Wraith and Bentley III induction systems both open exhaust and with silencer. (a) Each camshaft to be tried 1/2 tooth early, normal and 1/2 tooth late. (b) Comparison of tappet noise and general degree of silence, also the maximum clearance of tappets yet still retaining standard degree of silence. (c) Comparison of idling with clearances determined in (b). W.III No.4. Tests with block and pistons as removed from 26.G.VI. on account of smoking on opening up after periods of idling. | ||
