COMPLAINTS OF RADIATOR MOVEMENT WITH CENTRE MOUNTED RADIATOR, P. 2. In order to overcome complaints of radiator movement with cars having a centre radiator mounting it is necessary to increase the initial movement of the radiator. If sufficient initial movement is given to the radiator there is no reason why the radiator should not be steady when the car is on the worst roads, providing that the bonnet clearances are adequate and that bonnet locks are not causing the bonnet to move with the frame. The initial movement of the radiator can be increased by :- (a) Changing the radiator control rubbers each side of the centre mounting. (b) Increasing the clearance between the radiator bottom tank and the cross-member. Radiator Control Rubbers. There are now 3 different rubbers which allow various amounts of radiator movement. E.80612 is the hardest which is fitted to cars previous to diamond engine mounting. F.84086 a soft rubber is used for all cars with diamond engine mounting. The third rubber F.84539 is similar to F.84086 only it is .075" less thick. This allows some idle movement of the radiator before the rubber comes into action. F.84539 should only be used when F.84086 does not allow sufficient radiator movement to overcome the complaint. Increasing the Radiator Clearance. This should be done as far as possible by raising the radiator using an extra packing in the centre mounting. The limiting feature being the starting handle shaft. | ||
