- 2 - Serrated adjustment. Place this in the first notch position so that the actuating lever is in its lowest position in relation to the cam. There should be 5 notches remaining to adjust for wear. Each notch will raise the lever in relation to the cam. Toggles. For an initial setting adjust these so that with the drum on, there is approximately .35 to .4" free movement at the end of the cam actuating lever before it stops in the down direction by contact of the shoes against the drum and stops in the upward direction by the cam links locking against the sides of the cam. Bedding. The brakes should be bedded according to the instructions given on Drg. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 72403. After correctly bedding, couple up the operating rods and check the clearance, angular position of levers etc. as follows:- The pull levers on the axle to which the pull ropes are attached should be on their stops on the axle. The angular positions of the levers are given on Drg. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 72580. The correct clearance between the brake shoes and the drum measured at the centre of the shoes - where it is greatest is from .018" to .023". This will give .4 to .5" movement at the end of the cam actuating lever. It should be noted that the extension to the pull lever (which is the lever to which the pull rope is attached) which stops against the underside of the axle, is the stop for the brakes, and the toggles locking in the contd. | ||
