X8420 Expl: Dept: HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LG2 21st. June 1926. To NA.{Mr Nadin} from HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8420 X8772 Many thanks for the fountain-pen. As regards the front axle, R.{Sir Henry Royce} criticised some of the features which produced sharp square corners. These are being modified. We ought to be able to send you your axle in two to three weeks. We have completed 50 hrs. bumping test on the axle, pivots and steering levers as it was originally designed, so there is not much to fear that it will not be strong enough. The effect of the axle on the road is that it gives us a much lighter steering. We think this is chiefly due to the better pivot pin bushes, which in one case is a roller bearing and in the other a plain bearing - being larger in diameter maintains the oil film. As regards high speed wobbles. So far we have not experienced them, although we are not in a position at present to be able to say how much better it is in this respect than with the old axle.
