PHANTOM FRONT AXLE - FOR TESTING
FOR GENERAL PRODUCTION.

Herewith we send N.sch.2211 shewing some modifications R.{Sir Henry Royce} would like to the above axle to improve the appearance, give slightly increased strength, improved machining and effect some further lightening.

It is desired to lower the brake operating shaft and avoid the corners in the window in the web.

Two suggestions are shewn - one involving an alteration to the die for production, the other using existing forgings and modifying the machining for a few further axles for immediate use and test, because we do not want to wait for the dies to be altered.

We understood from you on Wednesday that there is no difficulty in altering the dies, and therefore the first proposal should be followed as soon as convenient.

In addition to this we have shewn some lightening on the brake operating lever, and also on the steering levers, both involving modifications to the dies.
