TUNGSTEN IGNITION CONTACT POINTS.

As referred to in our preliminary note EFC1/T5.11.27, we are sending you the contact point results of two 10,000 mile tests on the bench, comprising tungsten pointed lever and screw in each case, and exactly corresponding with your LeC.2460/1 with the following exceptions :-

(1) In neither case was the additional flexible connection used.

(2) In the case of LeC.2461, the umbrella rotor as shown thereon was not used, but a standard rotor, because it was considered this would offer a better comparison with known results, though it is true that we have recently determined that the type of rotor makes very little difference to the functioning of the points.

You will see that both samples now sent have given very fair results, but if anything the one given by LeC.2460 is the better of the two. On the strength of this we are instructing at once, for running on experimental cars, three sets to LeC.2460. In regard to the off-set lever we have been able to prove no advantage in this and we find it has the disadvantage of increased noisiness.

Together with the samples referred to, we are also sending you a sample of the points run 10000 miles on the bench under standard conditions except with the removal of the distributor, and you will see that the result in this case is no better than standard and nowhere near as good as the other samples sent.
