F.11. & 'H' RUBBER WATER JOINT. X3866

The moulded oval-section rubbers, used in place of the rectangular section rubbers, are being used successfully on development engines. We are using the same compression on these rubbers as on the rectangular ones.

The point we are not satisfied with on the oval section rubbers is that the * joint on them is not carried out very well. This matter is being taken up with the makers.

The next type test will be run with oval section rubbers.

Acting on your instructions we also have fitted up one side of a development engine with recesses in the aluminium block so that the rubber can squeeze into it if it is subjected to any excessive compression.

Experience has shewn that we cannot afford to reduce the original dimensions to any extent without getting into trouble with water leaks.
