To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. BJ. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. EY. PN.{Mr Northey} c. CWB. EFC3/T3.10.28. RE DYNAMO, Y8671 (struck through) X8864 One of our customers who sent us an enquiry for a higher output dynamo suggests a dynamo with a "dual debit". He says that during the daytime the dynamo debit would debit approximately 15 amperes at low speeds, but when the headlights are on the dynamo gives an output something in excess of the discharge, which he says would be in the neighbourhood of 20 to 25 amperes dynamo output. He continues to observe that "in that way one can run all night with headlights and searchlight going and not have the battery discharged in the morning". I think we have previously referred to this idea of making a headlamp switch short circuit a resistance in the dynamo field. It now occurs to us that/the higher output dynamo such a procedure might be more applicable. There would, however, appear to be an objection to this arrangement in that if a quick charge of the battery is required in some circumstances, the full output of the machine is not available.
