To Hg/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} GUL-42 25/30. This car came in today, the Owner having only had it one week, Mileage 400. Nos. 2 & 3 plug oiled up. Slow running poor, found setting too strong. Tappets noisy (one valve definitely sticking). Another Owner has come in, GUL-33, Mileage 1380. Complaints. (1) Oil leaking from filler cap. (2) Oil pressure failed, release valve stuck, and dirt under valve. This seems to be prevalent on the new car. Are they taking the usual methods of cleaning. (3) Detonation. Has been using Shell No.1. Advised use Ethyl spirits. (4) Uneven slow running. This is the sudden misfiring then O.K. and so on, very prone on this car. We are suspecting sticking valves. (5) Too rich slow running. (Apparently as the rings bed in, the mixture becomes strong). (6) Popping in the silencer, could be due to oiled up plugs. (7) Nos. 1 & 2 plugs getting oiled up. | ||
