COPY. THE CALORIZING CORPORATION OF GREAT BRITAIN, CARLTON HOUSE, REGENT STREET, LONDON, S.W.1. YOUR REF:- WD{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}9/NJ14825. OUR REF:- CAL.{Mr Calvert}O/1313/RS{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}/CJP. 24th August 1925. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. Nightingale Road, Derby. Dear Sirs, Further to your letter of the 14th inst, our works report that one of the tubes of the first consignment has become distorted and bulged somewhat during treatment. This consignment being only one set was treated in a smaller retort than that for the two sets which came together, and these latter two sets have turned out very well after treatment. You will appreciate that if articles are sent in small quantities they have to be treated in the most economic manner possible; and the treatment of these has proved that it is much better to Calorize two or three at a time than one only. If you have any difficulty in brazing the flanges we suggest you slightly grind or file the surface that has been protected, as it is possible that a small quantity of aluminium has adhered to this surface. If a good fit is required the tube could be expanded to make up for any metal which has been ground off. We trust your experiments will prove acceptable, and shall be very glad to have your comments on same. Yours faithfully, THE CALORIZING CORPORATION OF GREAT BRITAIN (Sgd) R.S. | ||
