No.30 Bed.

Wraith III No.1 Unit.

Investigation of

(1) Timing gear noise, effect of backlash as given in new cam wheel.

(2) Tappet noise and scrubbing on face of tappet.
Valve lift curve to be taken.
Noise with clearances of .002, .006, .010.
Repeat inspection of tappet face since making spherical after several hours running.
Note camshaft for lubrication as tappets are removed.

(3) Complete running in and take power curve, consumption depression and note distribution.

(4) Check for valve bounce and if any at what speed it commences.

(5) Oiling layout.
Engine running at 4000 R.P.M. with an oil inlet temperature of 100°C. select springs to give 35 lbs. main pressure - 4 lbs. rocker pressure.
Note pressure when opening up cold and whether any pump noise or relief valve noise.

(6) Idling with complete standard exhaust silencer, find by variation of tappet clearance if existing camshaft requires modification.
Power curve with standard exhaust silencer, also governor characteristic required with power loss to avoid detonations etc.
