-2- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}12/JH.8.6.37. B-19. Before continuing endurance check following for information required on fitting of Bye-pass filter to B-24 for 15,000 miles test. Check pressure in relief valve pipe as close to pump as possible also pressure at rocker feed into the head. Endurance to be continued up to 50 hours. No.5 Bed. Phantom III No.3. Unit with raised valve gear. Check with hydraulic tappets in action whether with the longer and heavier valves whether the valves are held off their seats at speeds up to 4500 by reason of valve bounce. Check by power curve against running with hydraulic action deleted. Get shop to check diametrical clearances in plunger housings and see that they are O.K. to drawing. Also check valve springs to see if standard. If no bounce can be deleted get some springs slightly weaker and again check. We want to be sure that we have a little factor of safety against bounce. B-9 Following attention by millwrights to dynamometer continue oil consumptions. GENERAL. Test report card and curves of B-24 required (No.30 bed) Test report of B-18 after running by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards} (No.2 bed). Test report of C-17 (No.2 bed).
