It will have a ammunition tray to QPL.113 and armouring shields which we are now engaged in designing.

We have no delivery date that we know of for this gun and do not know where it will be used.

Production.

We understand that we are not allowed to accept an order for the production of these guns and that this will be done directly by the Admiralty.

We are allowed only to undertake experimental and development work which includes the service trials guns.

It is proposed to make 50 guns with aluminium cradles and single shot operation. After that the cradle may be made in Naval Bronze to drawing No. QB.1930. Schemes are in hand for the automatic operation, and this may be introduced at some period not before the 50th. production gun.

There are 36 Oerlikon Mountings which have to be used up. These may be used on guns numbering 1 - 36 or may be mixed with some of the pedestal mountings.

We do not know how may pedestal mountings the Admiralty have the intention to order.

On appendix sheet 2, we quote a list of schemes applicable to the pedestal mounting.

Power Mounting.

We are developing in conjunction with Messrs. Nash & Thompson the power mounting. The designs and details are almost complete, the mounting at the moment takes any type of 40 m.m. gun with aluminium cradle or bronze cradle, single shot or automatic. We have an arrangement with Messrs. Nash & Thompson to get purchased for them such parts of the mounting which they do not require to make themselves. Already we have asked the L.M. & S.R. to produce a gear ring and its components. These details where handed to the L.M. & S.R. by Blk.
