Alterations to dampers and their performance after a 500-mile test.

- 5 - ALTERATION TO DAMPERS (ready for running on the 12th) All dampers filled to top of filler plug. NEAR SIDE FRONT Gland packing, asbestos, tallow, placed at opposite end. V shaped bronze washer. OFF SIDE FRONT N°2 scheme, wedge shaped flat type bronze washer, gland drilled for venting. Asbestos, tallow 3 ply 4 ft. long before winding. NEAR SIDE REAR N°2 scheme, wedge shaped bronze washer, asbestos 3 ply tallow, vented. OFF SIDE REAR N°2 scheme wedge shaped bronze washer, 3 ply asbestos, tallow, vented. RESULT AFTER DAY'S MILEAGE OF 500 MILES No leak from any of the glands, slight leak from gland cap face of N.S.F. The settling down of the oil in the dampers gave the following, amounts added at the finish of the day's run: N.S.F. lost 4cc. O.S.F. lost 6 cc. N.S.R. lost 3 cc. O.S.R. lost 2 cc. The dampers are running under the same conditions for the day's mileage of the 13/6/33. [Signature] G.W.H. | ||
