Handwritten Note (left): Copy to Caswell 17-3-15 Re Lining for Central Brakes. Referring to Mr Caswells memos, returned herewith, dated 1.3.15 and 4.3.15. in which he asks for a decision as to whether he ought to fit Raybestos or Ferodo, to the central brake, and rear brake of cars in America. Dealing first with the cars, prior to 2700 series, that is cars fitted with the central brake, behind the gear box, and one hand brake, operating on the rear wheels, I am of the opinion that you should instruct him that in the case of noisy brakes, that he should fit Ferodo or Raybestos to the central or foot brake, but that he should fit our usual cast iron shoes to the rear wheels. At the same time he should instruct the drivers that the central brake is not to be used continuously without relief on long and steep inclines, but that in descending a very long hill, the use of the hand and foot brake should alternate, using each independently for a short space of time, then falling back This sheet must be filed with the correspondence to which it refers. | ||
