To B.J. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} SECRET. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG14. 8.24. X9410 R.R. SPRINGING. X9410 X2628 (struck through) With reference to BJ1/H13.8.24 regarding R's memo. RL/M19.7.24. We agree that the car which first created the bad impression was the EAC.11. speed model car which had stiffer springs than your Open Trials Car. The rear springs however were the same as when PN.{Mr Northey} ran this car in France. They were 10% stiffer than standard. The actual rear springs on that car, we have taken off and examined them for nip. There is no more nip between the leaves than on the average springs. We found that when the springs were taken apart that in spite of them having been fitted with gaiters, the lubrication between the leaves was not good. This would probably account for a slight increase in friction with these springs. As we have pointed out previously, there has been no alteration in the instructions of springing rear springs. It is not the practice to take all springs apart to examine for the amount of nip, but those we have examined have been similar. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
