22nd April, 1940.

W.A. Robotham, Esq.,
Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
Derby.

Dear Robotham,

It was good of you to write inviting us, and we shall be coming along soon.

Our work has moved along and we believe now we shall have an engine running within the sixty-day period.

Mitchell has been a great help and so have many others whom we have telephoned and who have called on us at our invitation.

Believe me, we have been listening hard to every bit of information brought to our notice.

When this job is done - if ever - it will be a real; "all British" engine with a community of fathers. It may not be "brilliant" and may undergo revision later, but our job is to get out an engine quickly, safely and of all cast iron.

You, through Mitchell, have served us well indeed. Your Elliot likewise.

Now to hold the fort on such a job required being on the spot. Next week we shall, if agreeable to you, call on you. We will bring along an armful of prints and we can, if you like, look this job over together.
