KIDLY GRY{Shadwell Grylls}- 602 RDV. C.E., Ex-De., Hn{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders}/Fm. E/HDY.{William Hardy}2/HP.21.8.36. Wraith II Back Axle. Will you kindly order from The Kirkstall Forge Co.Ltd.LEEDS.S. one back axle forging in mild steel as shown by our N.Sch.4883, a print of which we attach. This matter has been discussed with Mr F.R.Cowell of the Kirkstall Co. who informs us that they have in stock an axle forging to the drawing X.3610. The charge for the machined axle casing would normally be about £6.10.0 to us but in this case we think it should be less as we require less machining in the case of the axle shown by N.Sch.4883 than is normal. No doubt you will prefer to ask for a quotation before placing the order. We should have preferred a nickel steel axle but there is not one available in the size we require and the extra cost of setting up to forge one is said to be about £10. However, Mr Cowell has promised to take a test piece from the forging which is to be supplied to us, and to let us know the yield and ultimate stresses. He is also going to give us these figures for the nickel steel so that a comparison may be made. Would you kindly remind him that we shall need these figures. Particulars of the composition of these two steels would also be useful. E/HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
