GEARBOX - PHANTOM III. Will you kindly note I have decided to go back to bronze on the Phantom III box for the bushes inside the synchromesh helical gears. We are making arrangements to supply more oil, as this is undoubtedly the cause of the wear of the bushes originally. There is a danger of seizing up with the hardened steel bushes, and when this occurs it is a complete breakdown, so far as the customer is concerned. This cannot occur with the bronze bush. The Bentley overdrive box will be treated in a similar way. The material is chilled cast phosphor bronze. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
