HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} DY.{F R Danby}) FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}) (At Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence.) C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} FN. C. ORIGINAL SECRET REF/M23.4.29. REC'D AT WW. 27.4.29. X3806 CENTRAL LUBRICATION. PHANTOM, SS.{S. Smith}, & 20HP. OILS TO RECOMMEND. Reading the report HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GY/19/4/29., I am not satisfied that we know what is best. Two points occur to me; they are - (1) Only a pure mineral is suitable, because vegetable, animal, and fish oils all become rancid or dry, both of which would be bad for the system or the car. Half dry sticky oil would be so difficult to clean off the car. (2) Also when there is ample oil we are told that mineral is satisfactory. Also it can be obtained nearly everywhere and should not be so costly. It only seems necessary to give a list,-Price's, Wakefield's, Mobiloil-of suitable brands for summer use, and for winter recommend changing to the thin oil with liquidity of water, and change back to the thick when very cold weather is finished.
