We pointed out that the chassis was not standard, and that deductions would have to be made before an accurate coachwork figure could be determined. We believe that the figures we now give you are reliable as we weighed the chassis before it left Derby, and kept an accurate record of every chassis part that was subsequently added to or removed from the car. We find that the coachwork weight, which includes wings and running boards but no accessories such as lamps, tools, horns and wipers, is 10 cwts. 2 qrs. 10 lbs. Tabulating the progress of the all steel body since the first one was fitted to B.56.BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} in the experimental department, we have:- Park Ward Steel Saloon fitted to B.56.BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} .............. Coachwork weight arrived as above. 8 cwts. 2 qrs. 8 lbs. Park Ward Saloon as fitted to Trials cars 1936 ....... 9 cwts. 2 qrs. 0 lbs. Park Ward Steel Saloon as recently fitted to 3.B.IV....... 10 cwts. 2 qrs.10 lbs. The original steel body gets undue credit because it was not fully noise insulated; it was also strengthened up in one or two places, but we hardly expected the weight increase to be more than ½ cwt. when it got into production. Our figures show that 3.B.IV. body is another 1 cwt. on top of the trials car weight, Mr. Ward makes it less but agrees to the following additions:- | ||
