Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Dear Sirs, Replacement Order No. R.4018. Referring to your letter of the 22nd August and to our telephone conversation yesterday, we confirm that we were unable to find anything electrically defective in the insulation of the four plugs type X335 you returned to us for inspection, though in two of them there were symptoms of "missing" at normal gap setting (.020"). We suggested that when using Ethyl fuel it would probably be desirable to maintain a closer gap setting and we suggested you try a setting of .015". We understand you will try this, and as arranged we are cleaning and returning the four plugs to you, with the gaps set as suggested. We shall be interested to hear whether closer gap setting eliminates the trouble you have experienced. If, as we suspect, the lead deposit has the effect of reducing the insulation value, the accumulation of deposit may of course reach a point when, even with the gap at .015", mis-firing would occur. Cleaning of the insulation would restore efficiency, but it seems desirable to work on a close gap setting so that cleaning of the insulation of the plugs will be less frequently necessary. Yours faithfully, LODGE PLUGS LIMITED. SALES MANAGER. [Sticker: MOTOR EXHIBITION OCT. 12-21 OLYMPIA OUR STAND No. 444 GALLERY] | ||
