X4388 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from EFC. EFC1/T19.8.24. X.4383. DYNAMO No.128 EX CHASSIS 61-H-S.WATSONS. With reference to your EY4/H10.7.24, we have now completed the investigation of this customer's machine on the lines suggested, and the results are as follows:- Being a comparatively early machine it was found that the commutator micas were practically completely flush. We found the main brushes to be in the exact neutral position instead of having the up-to-date 9º retard. It was found that the positive brush was set at a slight 'reaction'angle, rendering the space between the main brushes a little bit wide. A washer was found on the spindle against the rear end plate. Principally due to the flush commutator micas, and perhaps to a lesser extent due to the points mentioned, the heating of the commutator has apparently been excessive, with the result that the solder has run. There does not appear to be any definite suggestion, from examination, that the machine has been run on open circuit. You will be able, taking into account these features and the fact that the machine is one of the early ones, to judge the apportionment of the responsibility. EFC. | ||
