Dear Sirs,
DOUBLE ROW DOUBLE PURPOSE BEARINGS FOR GEARBOX LAYSHAFT.
We are in receipt of your valued communication of the 27th ultimo, regarding the above, and understand from our telephone conversation of this morning that it is very desirable to retain the bore and outside diameter of 7/8" and 2.1/4" respectively.
On our drawing X.2059 we outline a special double row double purpose bearing to this bore and outside diameter, the width being 1", and we might add that to reduce this width would involve reducing the bearing capacity somewhat. Each row of balls in this bearing has a capacity of 550 lbs. for journal load, while under thrust load, one row of balls is capable of 605 lbs., this of course assuming that thrust loads only are carried.
Assuming a mounting in which one row of balls accommodates journal loads only, and the other thrust loads only, the capacity at this end of the shaft would be 550 lbs. journal load, and 605 lbs. thrust
