X6058 17.3.31. X.6011 X.6058. SPECIFICATION OF INSULATION TEST OF MOULDED IGNITION COIL CASE. The coil case to be tested, with the two electrodes in position shall be subjected to the test provided by the laboratory H.T. D.C. test rig, the inner electrode being connected to the H.T. supply and the outer electrode being connected to the datum conductor of the test apparatus. (1) Leakage conductance figures shall be obtained. The ratio of the applied voltage to the microamperes of insulation leakage current (as read on the Weston galvanometer) shall, for an ambient temperature lying between the limits 15 to 25°C., not be less than that given in the following table :- At 15° 70 megohms. At 21° 53 megohms. " 16° 67 " " 22° 50 " " 17° 64 " " 23° 47 " " 18° 61 " " 24° 45 " " 19° 59 " " 25° 42 " " 20° 56 " (2) The coil case being still connected up to the apparatus shall be placed in the electric oven and maintained at 80°C. for 20 minutes. At the end of this period the case should again be tested and the ratio of the volts to the microamperes of leakage current shall then not be less than 1.2 megohms. (3) In the case of experimental tests of coil cases of other material than standard, an additional leakage test shall be made after the coil has been raised to 100°C. and maintained at that temperature for 30 minutes.
