via Boat Mail OY 2/D/Sept.7.40 Serial No. 211 September 7, 1940 Gun Rolls-Royce, Ltd. Derby, England Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Replying to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}24/ML.25.8.40 the cancelling of enquiries on gun parts meant nothing to me because no drawings had arrived, nor have they arrived since. The wood model for the 1/2" X 36" breech mechanism came in some weeks ago. We also have the arrangement drawing of the breech mechanism for the 1/2" X 36" and the barrel detail of the 40 m/m X 80". We have ordered the Pratt & Whitney machines for drilling, reaming, and rifling the 40 m/m X 80", but nothing else. The argument for stopping this job seems very thin to me. What does it matter if we are not doing the exact job we were originally supposed to do, provided it helps the cause? OY | ||
