On our schemes we have called for the Phantom III front jack to be used on the front of the Wraith II. As drawn we calculate that when the car is jacked up the clearance between the tyre and the road on Wraith II would be .9" less than on the Phantom III. Immediately .250" can be recovered by deleting the steel washer and the copper asbestos washer under the head of the jack. There would appear to be no necessity for the latter since the jack bracket is cut away in front and water can get in. This leaves us with .650" less clearance under the Wraith II tyre than Phantom III. We suggest that we try the car with this to begin with. Should we have to have greater clearance we could regain this .650" by using a lengthened pad on the bottom of the jack for Wraith II, which would make the front jacks interchangeable for the two cars except for this one piece. In order that the outer barrels may be interchangeable on the two cars, sufficient screw thread could be left on to cover the requirements of either type of chassis. The rear jacks are being dealt with separately. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
