For your information, there is here no method in the laboratory at the Ecole Militaire where the petrol is tested, for obtaining the octane value of petrol, also no such machine exists in Belgium not even at the University. The base petrol is bought in bulk for all sections of the army and this is broken down at the various units of the military to suit their requirements. I have seen today the laboratory report which is issued with each consignment which arrives at the Aviation Depot, and it does not convey anything only Sp{Mr Spinney} Gr{George Ratcliffe}, they do not know what octane value means, this is something new to them. Therefore from the above you will judge that it would be advisable for F or HWO to talk this matter over with the ministry, and I am sure they will welcome any information we can give them on these matters at the ministry."
