| To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} +35D Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}14/KW.30.1.36. Steering of 34-EX. The above chassis is at the moment dismantled in the Test Dept. and this is an excellent opportunity for carrying out the modifications to the steering. Will you please do the following as soon as possible:- (1) Fit the rockershaft with plain bearings throughout to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}17. These parts are already made. (2) Adjust the cam bearings to produce a load of 1/2 - 3/4 lb. at the wheel rim. (3) The rockershaft should not be preloaded and should be adjusted to mesh with the cam so that the tight spot in the middle can just be felt. (4) The cam and roller should not be changed. (5) Dismantle the rear end of the side steering tube, as we found in the garage that the inner ball pad had no movement, and, if the trouble is due to an error of machining, which we suspect, correct it. (6) Fit new inner ball pad in place of the present one which we reduced in length in order to allow movement. (7) Fit new steering wheel to replace one damaged by coachbuilders. The steering gear and side steering tube are at present in the Shop. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/F.J.Hardy. | ||
