Messrs Rolls Royce Ltd., Experimental Department. Derby. Dear Sirs, For the attention of J.B.Dixon Esq. re: Tank Unit T.A.248. our code X.45173. Further to your letter of the 23rd ult, We have now completed our examination on the above tank unit. We find that the contact arm was worn due to excessive pressure of the contact spring. With regard to the faulty contact, after reassembly, this was due to the hair spring not having been correctly secured to the insert. We are of the opinion that this latter trouble occurred after the contact arm had been removed for examination. We have pleasure in advising you that the contact spring is one of the very earliest type, and only a few of which were supplied. The spring itself has been reduced in strength. We note that the contact arm was stuck in the bakelite moulding and steps have already been taken to ensure that there is sufficient clearance between these two parts. Thanking you for having brought this matter to our notice and assuring you of our best attention. Yours faithfully, for S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LIMITED. GSPurcell ELECTRICAL ENGINEER. | ||
