340. To Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. (For Depot Sheet) Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.8/AP.6.4.38 Will you please issue a Depot Sheet instructing that the steam valves of all Ph.III. A.B. and C. series cars are checked as and when they come into our service Depots. The valve should be checked for steam tightness and blow off pressure exactly as is done by present production - if the diaphragm or valve is found to be in any way faulty a new one should be fitted and if adjustment is required this should be done by suitable packing washers under the stand pipe - these washers have been detailed. The sealing of this valve is important since if any serious amount of leakage is possible severe water loss will occur on any Ph.III. car fitted with a six port head i.e. on any A.{Mr Adams} B. or C. series car.
