To EFC. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to C.J. " " BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} " " DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} " " EH. ORIGINAL. X.3618' RE SWITCH BOX - 40/50 H.P. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. E4/G13/8/19. 2 We send you herewith drawing Lec.1127 shewing the above. You will note that a common aluminium die cast base plate is used to carry the Weston ammeter and three switches. The switch contact blades are mounted on a piece of moulded insulation. The moulding is strengthened against distortion by the incorporation of two steel tubes. The upper steel tube is used as a means of generally lubricating the hidden working pieces. The whole of the rear portion of the working material is enclosed by a pressed aluminium casing, which has an outlet nozzle from which the conductors issue. The switches themselves are formed of spring blades pressing on sliding elements. The elements themselves are formed of metal rings of drawn section, secured to the switch spindles by hubs of moulded insulation. The spring contact blades are never called upon to alter their shape or pressure. It is desired that the features limiting the stroke of any of the switches shall be the handle in the one direction striking on the front face of the front bearing, and the sliding insulator element striking on the rear face of the front bearing in the other direction. The cams must be made longer than the stroke of the switch so that the plungers will either be pulling the switch hard off or hard on. In accordance with Mr. Royce's wishes, will you please have made at the earliest possible moment a model of one of(contd. RR S32V (200 L) (2'D' 408 58-JJ) RUT.' SUPERIOR | ||
