Referring to drawing No. LeC.1083 shewing the 20 H.P. Main Oil Feed Pipe, we should like to know if Mr. Hives considers it necessary to have features into which the dirt may settle from the oil in the union opposite each main bearing. This can be provided by making the recesses extend downwards in each fitting to which the oil pipes are connected. It to some extent already exists by reason of the cap nut and hollow bolt, but the speed of the oil is possibly too high in the inside of the bolt to allow much settling to take in that locality. Would Mr. Day kindly note that the pieces of pipe should be soft-soldered to the union joints.
