SECRET. 1044 10 28 Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} c. to G/Rb.{R. Bowen} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM{Anthony F. Martindale}8/R.6.1.37. WRAITH BRAKE DRUMS. Wraith has been designed with aluminium brake drums, and it is probable that these will be the first aluminium brake drums to be standardised. Recently we obtained a quotation from the Birmingham Aluminium Castings Co. for Bentley drums as die castings, which would save us over £1 per drum. It is most important that we should get a quotation for Wraith drums as die castings in RR.53C, and then get samples of these for test purposes. The drums being built now for Wraith are made from sand castings with the ribs machined out of the solid. Will you please obtain this quotation for drums GW.830 and GW.568.
