Sr/VA5/ET.4.2.36 - 2 - We measured the cylinder bores and found them to be: N°1 N°2 N°3 N°4 N°5 N°6 Top of cyl. .004" .004" .0045" .0045" .0035" .004" Centre .0025" .003" .0025" .002" .0015" .0015" Bottom .0005" .0005" .0005" .0005" .0005" .0005" The degree of wear of the pistons (split type) varied from .002" to .003". In view of the owner's complaint of excessive oil con-sumption and of the fact that he had agreed for us to fit a high com-pression cylinder head and also, if we thought it advisable, aerolite pistons, we re-bored the cylinder block and fitted .010" oversize aerolite pistons. SLIPPER FLYWHEEL. We found it necessary to fit new friction washers. CLUTCH. The clutch of this car had to be relined and a new fric-tion plate fitted, plus 16 new GB.994 springs, on the 13.5.35, after a total mileage of 33.510 Kms. In agreement with "C", the owner was charged on a 50% basis. Upon the dismantling of the engine as mentioned above, we again found the clutch to be in a very poor condition generally and we effected the following work: Changed the liners and friction plate plus 16 GB.994 springs and a new G.56646 thrust washer. You will observe from the above that the repairs which we effected to the clutch on the 13.5.35 only lasted for 19.012 Kms. The owner has agreed to pay on a 50% basis. REAR AXLE THRUST BEARING. On the 26.2.35, we fitted a GB.1442 Ransome & Marles thrust bearing. The car had then covered 25.270 Kms. Upon recently dismantling the rear axle in order to change the axle tubes for those of the re-inforced type, we found that one of the steel ball cages was cracked. We therefore fitted one of the latest type thrust bearings GB.2035. You will observe that the GB.1442 type was changed after a mileage of 27.252 Kms. We also found that the axle gears had "picked up", though not excessively. We stoned the gears. | ||
