Angular Contact Bearing for Rear Axle Dash - Bentley V.{VIENNA} Re: Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 8/G 3.1.39. We have investigated the cost of replacing the present rear-axle hub bearing by angular contact bearings, as shown on GCD. 1131, and find that there would be a saving in cost of approximately 7/6d. per chassis. We attach a list of the various items together with their factory costs. Our own feelings are that the saving in cost does not justify the inferior location for the hub bearings. We feel that there is a danger in using a Circlip in such a hidden position. Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} Will not road tests tell us the answers?
