S/W..Rev. c, to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} e.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X405D Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} C6/C17.1.35 DUNLOP TYRES. ROY{Sir Henry Royce}1/MG16.1.35. I agree with you that Dunlops appear to have been premature in issuing their advertisement, as presumably there are other manufacturers concerned as well as ourselves. However, it appears necessary that we should use up all our old stock before we start on the new tyres, because the mere fact of issuing chassis with a new type of tyre would draw customers' attention to the tyres while they are at the Coachbuilders and is likely to lead to requests for the same. As you say, Test Dept. do not appear to be particularly enthusiastic and I think we can tell customers in the meantime that we do not look upon the Dunlop '90' as being in any way superior to our 'MA-2' tyres, which were specially made for Rolls-Royce cars. I do not anticipate we shall have very much difficulty in disposing of these tyres during the next month. We are rather concerned about Test Dept's report that the '90' tyres give a harder riding and we would like to try them on a car in London. Do you happen to have a set that we could have to try? If so, please despatch them to Lillie Hall complete with wheels, advising us when they have been despatched. C. | ||
