30th. October 1937.

For the attention of Mr. Leslie Kent.

Dear Sirs,

We agree with your comments on the proposal for increasing the stroke on the S.U. HP. pump, and realise that we might run into trouble if we took the delivery over-run load on the end of the inner toggle arm. in fact, if these pumps are run dry for any length of time the toggle arm breaks. To overcome this we propose to make the trunnion either larger in diameter or preferably out of rectangular material, so that the material projects below the inner rocker arm and meets the end of the core thereby limiting the travel without imposing a load on the toggle arm.

With regard to changing the method of attaching the wires to the terminal stud, we are of the opinion that either a Ross Courtney terminal or your standard method both appear a more durable fixing. However, we have never had any trouble with the existing arrangement on the S.U. R.R. pump where the leads from the coil are stranded wire, and accordingly wish you to have the High Pressure coils similarly made.

Will you please let us know when you will be in a position to do this ? At the same time we would like you to submit a High Pressure pump with the wire fixed as you suggest and also incorporating the modification to thickness of the flange and position of the step which you suggested some time ago. We could then clear up the whole position with endurance test.

continued.
