Re Noisy Side Shafts. X522

With reference to the attached correspondence, we have taken this matter up in the Experimental Dept. in accordance with your instructions but we have not yet had time to obtain any results. We have a particularly bad example of side shaft gears and I am having this box erected in a frame with undershield, and arrangements are being made to drive it by a small electro motor.

I have previously written to Mr Royce suggesting that we should try double helical gears made by cutting two pairs of wheels of opposite hands and bolting them together with clearance in between. If it is a question of incorrect gears which is troubling us,
