3. obtain gears which could be classed "good" and the oiling system will improve these to the "very good" state. Mr Barrington informed the Committee that he had suggested to Mr Royce a few days previously that the double helical gears made by cutting two separate pairs of gears of opposite hands and bolting them together with some clearance between the pairs, would be worth trying. He now asked the Committee whether they thought the job sufficiently reasonable and hopeful to make it worth while putting a set in hand immediately. The Committee agreed that two sets of such gears should be instructed by Mr Bailey as soon as possible. Mr Wormald emphasised the importance of making some move towards improving these gears by pointing out that at present we scrapped an enormous number of side shaft gears which he was unable to improve. Mr Barrington asked the Committee whether we were to look on this chassis rig as a temporary affair and whether it would not be advisable to raise this question in a months time, and reconsider the advisability of putting in hand a variable speed rig which would reproduce the conditions in the chassis. The Committee agreed that this matter should be raised in a months time when Mr Wormald would have some facts concerning the work of the chassis rig. The Meeting adjourned at 3-20 p.m. [Signature: RB{R. Bowen}] | ||
