Dear Mr. Royce,

I must thank you for your letter of the 23rd inst. in the matter of unsatisfactory deliveries of D.W.S. Hydraulic Jacks for your Phantom III car together with letter you have written to Mr. Horton our chairman.

I have been extremely upset for some time with regard to the poor deliveries the works have been giving you and whenever I have given you a promise I firmly believed that it was possible to keep to it.

I entirely appreciate your position with regard to the whole matter and am glad you have written to Mr. Horton setting out your views in this direction.

I have today telephoned Mr. Mansell, Managing Director of the works and asked him to immediately investigate the position.

Although I have no wish to make excuses for these bad deliveries, you will appreciate that considerable technical alterations were decided upon at rather a late date and we have been experiencing a great deal of trouble with the moulding of the rubber glands in the jack rams; in fact this trouble can definitely be stated as being the only reason why deliveries have not been up-to-date as all the other parts of the jacking system have been ready. Your engineering department is aware of the difficulty we are in with regard to this moulding and we have put up to them an alternative scheme which would ensure speedy production without the hit-and-miss method we are now obliged to continue with.

-contd-
