HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/WST. FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} C- to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} NOR. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} re. FUTURE DYNAMOS. R4/428.11.31. Sent off 30.11.31. X6099 We long ago pointed out to Mr. Clarke that better output and better automatic control can be obtained with the vibrator type of control and a simply wound shunt dynamo. This now seems to be successfully done by the Bosch Co., using a 2 stage vibrator carried out somewhat differently to our earlier suggestions when we realised that a 2 stage vibrator would probably be much more satisfactory than the more general types of single stage. We think our future dynamos should certainly be of this type, as from a temperature point of view we can get a bigger output from the same machine, and also the regulation is much more favourable to the life of the battery, which HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/WST. pointed out would not be so good as in the past owing to the increased rate of current. (It should be realised that our practice in the past of supplying only a small charging current has been very favourable to the life of the battery. It has been proved recently that a greater quantity of current is now consumed on modern motorcars by powerful headlamps, and many accessories needing electrical energy.) R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
