Phantom III.

Rubber Mounting of Body 34-EX.

We have had a conversation with Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FD{Frank Dodd - Bodies}, on the telephone, at Messrs. Park Ward & Co's.

It is reported that the reverse rubbers of 35 durometer, made from engine mounting dumb bells, 25 H.P. and Phantom III radiator mounting dumb bells are too soft, and with plain washers the latter enter the holes in the rubber.

We understand that Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FD{Frank Dodd - Bodies} is fitting washers which he is making from a slab of rubber 70 durometer 1/8" thick, and that he will give us exact particulars of the thickness and diameter of these rubbers on his return, so that we may have a record of what is being tested on this car.

Although we asked Messrs. Park Ward & Co., some weeks ago to prepare the special body bolts for this experimental car, the job has been held up because, when the car arrived, these bolts were not available. We are informed that the car will not be ready for the road until Wednesday evening.

The thick rubbers on the back body brackets of 33-EX lend no support to the rear of the body. We feel sure that such a mounting would cause a normal wood and aluminium body to crack at the boot panel junction with the head. The adjustment of the doors would not be permanent.

The difficulties may not be experienced on the car in question as the body is panelled in steel and has a fixed head.
