X.4473 23.10.28. GENERAL SPECIFICATION OF TESTS ON CHASSIS H.T. IGNITION CABLE. A. {Mr Adams} Physical & Chemical Tests of the Dielectric. (1) Immerse in petrol for 100 hours. Note effect and increase in weight, if any. (2) Immerse in engine oil for 100 hours. Again note effect and increase of weight, if any. (3) Temperature test. Maintain the cable at a temperature of 150°C. for 4 hours and observe the effect on the dielectric. Also observe the degree of inflammability by exposing a portion of dielectric to a naked flame. B. Electrical Tests. (4) Perform a high A.E. voltage breakdown test after 24 hours immersion of the central portion of a length of cable in water at normal atmospheric temperature, the test being conducted whilst the cable is still immersed. (5) A sample length of cable should be kept at 150°C. for one hour and allowed to cool, after which it should be bent into a loop of 1" internal diameter and immersed in water for 4 hours. In this condition the cable should be tested for breakdown, the breakdown voltage (if attained) being noted. (6) Observe the cracking effect on the insulation due to high voltage oscillatory brush discharges passing over the surface of the insulation to earthed clips thereon. This test to be carried out over a length of time according Contd. | ||
